GRUIT
[Au] Gesho Gruit
Humans love gold. We put it everywhere and in everything, and that was even before we discovered its mind-boggling chemical properties.*
No one loved gold more than the traders of the Sahara desert. Through droughts and endless miles of sandstorms, these folks moved unbelievable amounts of gold back and forth across one of the most extreme places on Earth.
In an homage to those brave explorers of the gold trade, we sourced ingredients that would have featured in their favorite brews.
- Ethiopian gesho has been used in brewing for millennia and is a prominent component of tej, Ethiopian honey wine
- Incorporation of wheat and barley malts along with citrus peels and spices in conjunction with gesho for bittering and traditionally spicy gruit flavor
*Like what properties? Amazing electrical conductivity, catalytic activity, nanocluster behavior, plasmonic resonances — one is hard pressed to think of an field of chemistry that does not rely on gold at some point in the research process
